… God’s not gonna help you.
You know, that is one of the biggest lie that sometimes even Christians quote and believe in. I remember my father used it on me once, and I actually believed him. Only a few years down the road did I really find out that it was a lie. The fact that God has lavished His grace on us, because we are unable to help ourselves when it comes to the forgiveness of our sins has already debunked and rendered the statement void.
God is always there to pick us up when we fall. In Psalms 139:8b says,”… if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” He’ll never leave us, nor forsake us.
Though, having said all that .. if we are unwilling to be saved, deny His salvation and forgiveness .. who can help? That’s the one thing that God does not have control over : Man’s freedom of choice.
Now, the statement changes. If we don’t want to be helped, how can we expect anyone to help us? Truth is, good help is hard to come by. But good help is of no help when there is no need for help.
I have realized, over the years of growing up like a nomad .. that if you’re not willing to help yourself, no one around you will help. I might not have grown up like others who’ve had many childhood friends and peers that have stuck with them for umpteenth years, but I do realize this: that people become complacent, feel too comfortable and eventually lose their drive when they’re part of a group of friends, or been in a familliar environment for too long.
Complacent in? Comfortable with? Drive for?
Souls. Growth. Depth. Height. Success.
Today’s quote of the day reads,
“I do not want merely to possess a faith; I want a faith that possesses me.” - Charles Kingsley
So, what possesses you today? Your work? Friends? Family? Or faith? Do comment.

thts a super quote! wht possesses me ar.. i think its sleep for now. haha =P
geline : Sleep? Hor! In Proverbs it says,”A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of hands, and poverty will come upon you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man!”
Haha. Just scaring you. Didn’t get enough sleep ka?
don’t wanna sound like i am bragging but Praise God its faith alone that possesses me now as i have learned everything else is sinking send.
I try not to let take things possess me cause there are bound to be seasons in life where specific things ‘possess’ you. I don’t like the word possess cause I don’t think any one thing has the potential to ‘possess’ you per se save a spiritual cause/being. Be it God or non-God deities.
Anyway, I would much prefer the word ‘headspace’ or ‘mindspace’. That way we can actually control the amount of headspace we allow this ‘possession’ when it comes roaring and stomping its feet. We don’t have to crack under the pressure and be ‘possessed’ but we can arrange the furniture in our mindspace, cut the ‘possesion’ down to size and say, “OK! I am giving you 20% of my headspace for three weeks and that’s it. Now I have to get on with the other 80% of my life!”
Cause we’ll see that at the end of our lives, no ‘possession’ is worth it except what we can bring into Heaven… No deadlines, no promotion, no wealth, no children, no girlfriends, no ministry, no gifts, no talents, no intelligence… None of these are valid in a place where the streets are paved with gold…
God bless!
to david: good post, mate. enjoyed reading it.
to k.lo: something’s always got each and every one of us, and it’s probably just semantics to call it headspace. i like to think i choose what posseses me. :D
To each their own!
K.Lo : Yeah, I see your point where the word “possess” does imply the loss of control. Though, I find it quite tickling that you can actually give 20% headspace, and have that level of segregation. Hahaha.
Fergus : Oooh. Good Christian Boy, aye? Thanks for commenting.
hahha. yeah i know. thts one verse tht keeps me frm loving sleep above all else? :P just cant get enuf of it. Talking of sleep makes me feel sleepie. hehe. shall wait till i “retire” in 5 days time b4 i truly hit the sacks for a bit. my body needs the extra rest b4 i can fully function back. (and in case u get the wrong idea tht sleep is totally possessing me) hehe.
Of cos not forgetting the refreshings i need frm Him.
*just rambling cos i dont hv nything to do now. hee!
You retiring .. ah? From your work .. wha .. so bahagia .. to retire when you’re .. 19?
Hehehe.
yeaps! still 19 :D hehe. Retire was the word my parents used ;) hehe
at the moment, it’s the 30-Hr Famine!
haha..but seriously, I’d say the thing that “drives” me is my passion for life; to live it fully for Christ & to be there for my family & friends :)
thanks for the intriguing post, pal :)

geline : So young! But .. I’m still young too. Realized it these past few days. I think I’m spending too much time with people who are older than
I am. Hehe.
Jess : I’ve always been encouraged by your outlook and passion towards life. Awesome! Take care in Miri.
