where the silence breaks

It’s extremely dangerous to go through life without hearing His voice. In John 10:27 it says,”My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” The anti-thesis of it sounds like this : If His sheep doesn’t listen to His voice, He doesn’t know them, and they do not follow me.

When I seek God in the morning
I feel like I am free
From all the restless voices
Calling out to me
Surrounded by the silence
I surrender to the truth
That to live where I can listen
Is all He calls me to
I want to hear the voice of God
No matter what it takes
I wanna be weak enough to listen
Strong enough to wait
It’s not enough to know He’s speaking
I wanna hear what He has to say
So I’m standing in the shadow
Living where the silence breaks

I can hear Him in the pages
Revealing hidden truths
Old verses with new answers
For what I’m going through
His word is life to me
I don’t want to miss the moments
When He is calling me

It may be a whisper in the wilderness
A comfort in the pain
It may sound like rolling thunder
Or maybe like a gentle rain

Not hearing the voice of God recently?
No direction, no rhema, no logos?
Hearing millions of things a day?
Can’t tell if it’s God speaking?

In Matthew 7:15-23,

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!

So many times, we hear God’s voice in the 3rd party (or 4th, or 5th .. depending on how connected/disconnected you are). From then .. I really doubt that it’s God’s voice, because we know it’s God’s voice .. when we hear God’s voice. When we hear someone else talking about what God has said .. it’s not really His voice FOR US .. is it? And one day, when we stand before God and call Him Lord, He might then say the same thing to us.

Now that’s just other people’s voices .. possible leading us astray. False prophets, ferocious wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Be weak enough to listen, strong enough to wait.

Here’s a song by Casting Crowns, entitled “Voice of Truth“.
