I threw the idea of going up to Camerons out, cause .. yeah even though we’d be clear of what we’re getting ourselves into, others might not. And taking cues from Paul who kinda said,”If you’re gonna do something that you think might stumble someone else, don’t do it .. whether it’s right or wrong.”
So, I made plans to go up to Penang instead, sold the room (thank God), and drove up on Thursday early morning.
After 5 months, the ring has finally surfaced to see the light of day, though ironically packed in a opaque Body Shop to avoid the suspicious baby blue paper bag with the words “Diamond & Platinum” embossed with silver coating.
First day, I was cool as a cucumber. Too cool, actually. I’ve been cool for 5 months .. I think I could last another day.
Penang was hot. As we plotted our plans on the island, I was totally unprepared. I didn’t know what to do .. what to .. say. So I was cool. (more like .. blur)
Second day came. I was still cool (blur). She wanted to go to the beach, and I was already taken in by my brother’s earlier suggestion to go to Pulau Betong, which he said was a quiet remote beach just a bit off south west of the island. Evening came, and I packed the ring in the backpocket of my beach pants with my wallet on it. Save to say .. the drive there was slightly uncomfortable, but I was still cool (blur).
Halfway there, because the road was winding she developed a headache so I was a bit concerned if she’ll last the trip. I for one, wasn’t sure how far it was because I’ve never been there. I’ve never driven on that stretch of road, and didn’t know how long it would take for us to be there. After talking for a bit, she felt better and we continued on!
The road was windy, cutting through the hills, fruit estates and farms. We finally arrive, and it was still quite sunny. I was still cool (blur), though the sun was blaring away. We shot some photos .. until I set up this shot.
While I was setting the camera down on the chair, I knew at that moment, it was the shot I’ve been thinking about for 5 months. First was a couple of trial runs with the timer taking photos, but then came the real deal.
I put the camera on record, and because they use the same red light to blink, I thought I’d coax Liz to kinda pose and wait for the timer to countdown but in actual fact .. it’s shooting a video! I was looking at her the whole time and when she turned to look at me, I held both her hands, looked in her eyes ..
And I went down on one knee, and said,”Elizabeth Kay Lee Yan Soon ..”
Then she started .. to go all .. lembik. I think she couldn’t believe that I was knelt in front of her .. and the shock had overcome her .. and she still couldn’t believe I was serious when I asked her if she would marry me.
I got the ring out of my back pocket, and presented it to her and her reaction was,”Gosh .. YOU’RE SERIOUS!”
I was like .. “Yeah.”
Oh, the video? We’ll show it .. on our wedding celebration! Hehe. Minus all the .. you know .. PG-13 parts.
Then the sun came down, and it was nice! YAY!

Congratulations to the both of you!
