Today, I woke up and pondered about my state with God. I committed my day to God, and while I looked into the mirror as I was washing up, I saw a reflection of me. It was an inverted one, but still reflecting my physical features the same.

Same ol’, same ol’.

I mean, it’d be different if there was a zit the size of a 20cent coin on my forehead that erupted overnight .. or my scalp decided to uproot all my hair. So .. I really wouldn’t expect a major change to happen to me physically over the course of one night.

As I drove to work, I pondered. About how the traffic’s almost the same, about how I know what to expect at specific portions of my journey to work, and parking, and about how the office access system is 10 full minutes faster than actual time.

My desk looks the same, my desktop looks the same.

And as I sat down, I asked myself,

“Have I stopped expecting changes?”

I think it’s really easy to be caught up with the routine of thing. When day to day things like giving thanks for the food, praying for the sick, leading worship become the back of your hand .. it’s easy to lose track.

The track of which God wants you to go on.

It’s not that we’re outrightly going against God’s will, but sometimes we’re just ignorant of what God is trying to tell us.

It’s like the man who looks in the mirror, walks away and forgets how he looks like.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. - James 1:22-24

Did I forget what I look like this morning?

I hope not.

I bought it in 2005, looks pristine on the outside, though the handrests are just slightly discoloured, but no scratches! Display is still pristine. Battery life is at 80%, subject to usage.

I’m selling it at RM1,700 (definitely negotiable!), so if you know anyone who’s interested .. let me know.

On May the 16th, I picked BlackJack X (the tenth ..) up from the dealer, and have driven around in it for about almost 3 months! Why BlackJack X? Because the car registration number is as such, and the total of the numbers are 21! Hehe. Plus it’s black.

Didn’t have much time to put my photography skills to work because we had a dinner to attend (more on that tomorrow!).

About 2 weeks ago, the service went down so I called Airzed Customer Service and they told me that the amplifier malfunctioned and was scheduled to be replaced, and just this week, the signal’s back, and is STRONGER!

So I’m back online at home!

Oh, thinking about the state of the church, cells and members, how they think they’re good enough to enter heaven makes me cry. I cry because people live with such deception all their lives, abandon the full potential of which God has for them, and the blessings He wants to lavish upon them.

They slog, work 16 hours a day, get home at 10pm, sleep and begins the cycle all over again, earning what they think qualifies them to be rich, all so that they may live comfortably in a condominium with gym facilities they never use, living halls that are barely filled with the living, spanky clean kitchens and unused ovens?

Matthew 19:23-24 says,”Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

Yeah, we might not be as rich as this young ruler, but it was a matter of the heart. In the preceeding verse:

Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
“Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.”
“Which ones?” the man inquired.
Jesus replied, ” ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”
“All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

He boasts in his ability to follow the commandments, but when told to surrender, obey, and follow, he had an issue.

And that issue has cost him eternal life.

Now, it’s not as though God is calling you to sell your apartment and all other assets (God knows we love our cars, right guys?) for nothing, but the fact that if God were to call us to something, and we disobey God and here’s what the Bible says about disobedience with reference to the times of Moses:

7So, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion,
during the time of testing in the desert,
where your fathers tested and tried me
and for forty years saw what I did.
That is why I was angry with that generation,
and I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.‘ “[a]

See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. As has just been said:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts

Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? Everyone’s eager to celebrate my birthday, including my dad (who’s usually not eager about much things .. but that’s a changing trend too!). Liz insists that she wants to buy me something, Jasmine (my cousin) bought me something that Liz and I agreed to get as a birthday gift, and yeah .. it’s just odd to me how much people care about birthdays!

And you might be thinking,”It’s odd how David doesn’t care about birthdays!”

But that’s a changing trend! I will definitely try and make it back to Penang for my brother’s birthday in October. And also for the people around me.

This year, I made a different wish. All these years of wishing, I finally stopped thinking about myself.

I prayed that the young adults of this generation would come to the realization that they need God, to know Him, His will, and be obedient to it.

Seriously.

Thanks for all the well wishes, gifts (I smell nice now, Jasmine!), and love.

Can’t wait for tonight’s dinner, at the Lee Residence! My parents are going over, and we’ll have a nice get-to-know-your-in-laws session! Woohoo!
