mom’s birthday dinner

Liz and I travelled down to Yik Kee Restaurant, Karak for my mom’s birthday celebration with Aunty Nioh. Uncle Nioh’s so cute with his roundish features and small eyes.

Can you guys guess what the first dish is? Leave a comment! It’s a specialty.

Yik Kee Restaurant was one of the restaurants I grew up frequenting, whenever our parents were thrown business dinners in Karak. Brought back many memories, just eating there.

I am back!

But still as busy.

It was a good break for myself, and Liz too. I asked her to come along, cause a break will do her good too. So .. we took a slow drive up, stopped by Ipoh for snacks (but didn’t know where to go .. so didn’t have nice food .. at all. Coffee was good though.) and arrived in Penang in time catch lunch with James, Carol and Bryan. Here are some shots!

sunday night dinner cookout!

Liz and I decided to stay home on Sunday night, have a few friends over and cook! It was a little .. disorganized .. as my kitchen isn’t full featured. We lacked a table for food preparation, a shelf to keep all the spices/miscellaneous stuff for easy retrieval.

But we made do with what we had and managed to cook up a great meal!

Carl’s Jr. - not junior at all

Ripped the title from NickTay.

Back from his Bangladesh business trip, Nick and I planned for dinner one night and I said to him that I wanted something hearty .. when he asked,”What’s for dinner?”

Then he suggested Carl’s Jr. at 1Utama, and we braved the LDP jam (more like the .. growling stomachs) to get there. And we were not disappointed. The portions are mouth watering, big and satisfying. The price wasn’t though. I had the double portabe-so-much-meat-and-mushroom-and-vegetable-llo burger, and a combo of a drink and fries to go with it and it cost me RM28.XX!

Didn’t stop me from going there a second time though, a couple of days later. Muahahaha.

Free flow of drinks, better-than-McDonald fries, big portion .. what more can you expect? Oh .. TABLE SERVICE!!! They send the food over. Fab.

My recommendation?

Girl: Order a normal burger, small combo.
Guy: Order a double burger, regular combo.

Girl + guy : Order a normal burger, small combo and a double burger. Share the drink, and guy should pay for the meal.

2 X Girl + guy : Order 4 burgers, 2 with regular combo, and the beef chili fries.

Ah .. traits of a Hokkien Penangite oozing. Recommend good food, while thinking about saving money.

thumbs down, Italiannes

Jason, Jackie, Liz and I had post-dinner dinner and dessert at Italiannes yesterday at 1Utama and to my dismay, the food was ill-presented, ill-prepared and the service was horrible for such a place. Not that I’ve got anything against foreign workers, but hiring them to serve and take orders when they can’t even speak English is utterly unacceptable and unprofessional.

I can’t believe I’ve recommended it to a fair bit of people in the past.

What damage did it do to my know-the-worthy-food-places-in-town credentials? Gah.

Didn’t enjoy the food, nor dessert.

*thumbs down

the way to a man’s heart …

… is his stomach.

It’s true! Feed me and I’m a happy boy. And I think she knows that. I’ve got packed lunch today .. *wink

Brings a whole new light to the phrase,”Eat your heart out!

UPDATE : I’m in heaven. It was awesome. Spaghetti in white sauce with bacon. I LOVES. I absolutely LOVES.

Went out with Jess on Saturday night. She tested her new digicam out, and I figured that I’d just take a shot too. Here’s a bigger picture, for those who are on broadband. It’s about 300KB. Not very big. But nice. Hehe.

Hmm… I was up preparing food for tomorrow. I’m so excited. My first soup. More later. Need to sleep and wake up for church later, in about 6 hours time!

the weekend…

I will NEVER ever use IE [ stupid browser ] to write a blog entry EVER!

I lost like, prolly 200 words. Now I don’t feel like recalling every detail that I put on that entry. Stupid Microsoft. GRRR!

Just highlights:
1. Friday was madly hectic! When I finished class at 12, decided to book a room for the next day’s Worship Workshop. Met up with Andrew, and went about with the booking. I have to admit, I almost lost my cool when I was asked to go through absolutely absurd procedures. AndrewAu was there to see it! Ehahaha. Midway during CF, I had to run off, due to an emergency. Had to resubmit my group’s project report because it fell short of the requirement. When I got back, CF was over. Proceeded to fill my since-1000am-hungry stomach.

Went back to catch a 45 minute nap before coming online again. Christine called, saying that EeLing wanted to have dinner.. so I gladly obliged. Was feeling on top of the world because I just caught a nap and felt great about having dinner at New Paris [ Section19, PJ ]. Excited about Cell later that night too. Dinner was very nice. Food was great, the company was good, and the price was right! Left early to make my way to Victor’s place and head down to SS19 for Cell.

Cell was… small. But it was great being able to see TinTin, Adrian, Raymond, and others back in the same place. Sharing was edifying, as we spoke about the year of 2004, and what’s ahead of us.. in 2005. Mamak-ed later that night, got home at 0030 hours. Stayed up till 3 to prepare for the Worship Workshop at 1000 in the morning.

2. Worship workshop went well. Super short, but praise God that I managed to squeeze out what was essential. Had a practical session, where I formed teams to lead a song with musicians and all. Everyone was involved in their own teams, and had a time of evaluation after every session. Really too bad we didn’t have time to go through more about worship and worship leading. Sigh. But anyhow, it was a good time! Had good feedbacks, in which are deeply appreciated.

3. Sunday was a long day. I slept only in the early morning on Sunday, and got up at 8. Was at church all the way till 1630 hours, after Church Review. It’s always good to know how the church is growing. Ehehe. Went home, caught some anime but was dozing off. Decided to stay awake and not sleep during the evening, so that my night sleep wouldn’t be disturbed. Cooked myself some chicken soup with toast, cleaned the house [ which involves sweeping and mopping only ], and hung out till late at night.
